STATUS - Still no diagnosis to why Ben is having seizures, he has been entered into a Drug Trial. We will keep you posted on his progress.

"You can't live a perfect day without doing something for someone who will never be able to repay you."  John Wooden (former UCLA basketball coach).

Thank You for the outpouring of support! We live in a wonderful community. We realize there are many families in the community that are in need today!

We are in need of cash donations

"We are in need of cash donations so we can purchase more of Ben's rescue medication - it cost  $1500.00 a dose and it is not covered by Insurance. This med reduced the length and severity of Ben's last seizure."

We are raising money to pay for the MRI completed in March and a trip to John Hopkins, plus our trips to visit specialist in Los Angles and the East Coast.

Hi! My name is Benjamin Karpel-

I am 2 1/2 years old.  I had a happy and normal life until last February (2009) when I had a 16-hour seizure.  They had to put me into a coma to stop it and avoid possible brain damage or death. I look normal but, the doctors say that I have a structural brain abnormality that is causing my seizures.  One side of my brain just doesn't look like the other (it's smaller).

I have been rushed to the hospital and put into a chemically induced coma to stop my seizures more than a 2 dozen times since February 2009.  They have tried me on several combinations of anti-seizure medications. None have stopped my seizures, and I have had all kinds of icky side effects. It's terrifying for my mom, dad, brother and sisters.  They never know when it will happen. I have to be watched vigilantly . My mommy cant even work  . . .

I am only partially insured. We already have medical costs totaling over three quarters of a million dollars and the costs continue to mount quickly.  My mom and dad need some help to cover my growing medical expenses.

Because my seizures are so long, 8-36 hours, no one knows if I will be the same when they bring me out of each chemically induced coma.  I have been pretty lucky so far and have avoided brain damage but the doctors say it won't continue. . .
